Civil War Historical Sites

The second part of our vacation down South was spent stopping at several Civil War Battlefields and historical spots in VA.  The kiddies were livin' the dream (or Mommy's dream)!

We first stopped at Appomattox Court House.

The McLean House where the signing of the surrender took place...

The next day was full visiting three battlefields! (Because four battlefield sites are in such close proximity, they are actually considered to be one large battlefield area.)

We started with Chancellorsville...

Stonewall Jackson was shot at this location where the large rock remains (they originally placed it there to mark the spot).

Eliza worked hard to earn her Junior Park Ranger badge (at each location!)

Our next stop was The Wilderness...

One of the most memorable (and quirky) stops in The Wilderness was to visit the site where the owner of the property buried Stonewall Jackson's left arm after it was amputated during the battle of Chancellorsville.

Eliza earned her second badge of the day!

Our third battlefield of the day was Spotsylvania...

The rangers were gone for the day when we got finished, so Eliza had to wait until the next day to get her third badge.

The next morning we took a quick drive to the site where Stonewall Jackson died...

We finished our adventures at Fredericksburg before heading home

This section of wall is the original stone and placement from 1862!

And with that Eliza earned her third and fourth badges! The quadruple crown!
