Acadia: Day Twelve

The kiddies began their Independence Day in Bar Harbor. We enjoyed a quiet morning before the big holiday parade, and took the time to walk a bit away from town to visit the Compass Harbor Trail.

The trail leads to the ruins of George Dorr's "Old Farm" mansion, which he donated to the Park after his death in the 1940s. But after a few years it was determined that it wasn't cost effective to maintain it, and it was razed.

 

Dorr had an amazing "front yard."

We made our way back to the parade route in time for the festivities...the kiddies had the best seat (on top of the car!)

We enjoyed a hike up Pemetic Mountain in the afternoon... it had been a few years since we hiked to the summit, and the South Ridge Trail was new to us all.
